Practice has already begun in preparation for the first match of the Spring season. The Hoydens will face their rivals, the Louisville River Sharks, at 1:30pm on Saturday, March 19 at Lake Sullivan Fields.
With the start of the new season, the Hoydens are also proud to announce their new sponsor, Silver in the City/At Home in the City (www.SilverInTheCity.com), located at 434 Massachusetts Ave. in downtown Indianapolis. With the generous support of owner, Kristen Kohn, the Hoydens were able to purchase new goal post pads. "I do think it is a good idea for the community to support women's club sports. It provides an important opportunity for women to continue the recreation and bonding that team sports promotes" comments Kristen Kohn.
The Hoydens hope to continue with another winning season this spring. Last fall, their record was 8-2 as they defeated teams by more than 50 points. With a schedule that lasts almost three months, they will face their toughest opponents when they travel to Missouri to play the St. Louis Sabres in April and in May when they host the Minneapolis Menagerie.

The Indianapolis Hoydens Women's Rugby Football Club defeated the Red Storm of Indiana University 41-0 in Bloomington, IN on Saturday.
This marked the last match of the fall season for the Hoydens with a record of 8-2. Even though Indy had an amazing season, they were not invited to the Division II Final Four tournament. Because of the heartbreaking loss to Columbus 28-27, it was that one point that separated who would go on and who would stay home.

The Indianapolis Hoydens Women's Rugby Football Club defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 40-5 in West Lafayette, IN yesterday.
The two teams had met in the beginning of the season where the Hoydens came out on top by more than 50 points. This match proved to be tougher than the last. In the first 15 minutes, Indy struggled to keep possession of the ball due to bad passes, knock-ons and other penalties. With the first try of the match scored by Indy's wing, Suzi Dillon, it gave the Hoydens confidence to start playing their game. With the pack crashing and rucking hard and the backs outsmarting the Boilers, Indy continued to dominate for the win.
The Hoydens' record is now 7-2. Last week Indy played an amazing game defeating a tough Cincinnati-Dayton, 12-7. Next week they travel to Bloomington to take on Indiana University.
Two former Ball State rugby players formed the Indianapolis Hoydens Women's Rugby Football Club in 1997. The Hoydens are a part of the Midwest Division II Conference and are the only women's team in the state of Indiana. Other opponents include teams from Louisville, Detroit, Columbus and Cincinnati/Dayton. For more information on the team, log on to www.Hoydens.org.

The Indianapolis Hoydens Women's Rugby Football Club won 12-7 in a division match against the Cincinnati-Dayton Women's Rugby Football Club yesterday at Lake Sullivan Fields in Indianapolis.
Due to the pouring rain, it was a messy, muddy game between the Hoydens and Kelts. The Hoydens knew it was going to be a tough match, but their defense, skills, teamwork and communication proved to be too much for Cinci-Dayton.
In the first half, the Kelts slipped through our defense and scored a try. They made their conversion kick which brought the score to 7-0. The Hoydens dominated in the second half with outside center, Erin Hansen picking off a pass and breaking away to score. With the conversion kick, the game was tied 7-7. The Hoydens almost scored two more times with their rolling mauls but the Kelts prevented the try by keeping the ball from touching the ground. With 5 minutes left in the game, flyhalf Sherri Hughes faked a switch with her inside center creating a gap in the defense. She made it into the try zone for the score. Although the kick was missed, Indy held on to the lead for a 12-7 win!
The Hoydens' record is now 5-2. Last week they had a heart-breaking division match loss to Columbus, OH, 28-27. At the beginning of the season they took first place at the Irish Fest Rugby Jamboree. They dominated the tournament by defeating Purdue and Ball State. Each opponent was scoreless in the matches while Indy scored 50 points or more. Next week the Hoydens travel to West Lafayette to take on the Boilermakers once again.

The Hoydens scored three tries early in the first half with the strength of their pack and the teamwork and speed of their back line. Defense was a key factor in the game as they held Louisville/Lexington from scoring three times in the try zone.
The Hoydens remain undefeated this season with a win over Ball State University and a first place finish at the Irish Fest Rugby Jamboree. They dominated the tournament by defeating Purdue and Ball State. Each opponent was scoreless in the three matches while the Hoydens scored 50 points or more.
